Lesson 6 (ten)

This is an example of a secondary group. They are all teammates that have the same goal to win.
This is an example of my primary group which includes my intermediate family. I respect them very much and they have helped shaped me into who I am today.
These two boys represent a dyad; a very unstable group.

Here a triad is represented. These group is more stable but less intimate than the dyad above is.
This picture represents social influence. One member of the group influenced another members attire resulting in members of the group dressing the same.
This is an example of my in-group. We all share common interests and enjoy doing things together. I identify with the people in this group.
This group can represent social cohesion. As an academic highly competitive team, we were loyal to each other, and spent numerous hours working with one another creating a strong group cohesion.
This is a picture of my friend on a bus with a bunch of strangers. Although they shared a location they do not know each other, therefore they are not a group but an aggregate.
These people are considered strangers. They are physically close, but the boy in the red shirt has no idea who the other kid is.
One may think my dad and I are in a group because we both wear glasses.  However, we are actually just a category.

lesson 5

Family is the most important agent of socialization. We are basically created into the people we are because of our families.

Our peer group is another agent of socialization. They shape us after our family does, and we often are introduced to new things by our peers.
Her role is a stay at home mom. Her family expects her to cook, and clean, and take care of the children.

Mass Media encourages society to buy and consume goods, while telling society what to believe, and is another important agent of socialization.

Schools is an agent of socialization that teaches through a hidden curriculum. Students learn things such as punctuality, which is what the clock represents.

Lesson 4

Here in the background you can see an American flag hung. The flag represents symbolic culture. People know it means freedom and that you always respect the American Flag

This stop sign is a sign that every driver knows, even if the word stop was not written across it. Its colors and shape represent a traffic rule.

Here a lady is waving at me, giving me a hand gesture. This is a nicer gesture but other gestures can be used to show anger or sadness.

This boy is about to break a major taboo and eat the other dead boy who is laying on the ground. Cannibalism , along with another taboo, incest, cause disgust in individuals, and hopefully rarely happen.
Iphones, and any Apple product for that matter, are material culture. Society is becoming very dependent on material culture such as technology.

LESSON ONE AND TWO

My little friend Coen is a perfectly example of a beginner's mind. He has yet to create any ideas about society or how things are supposed to work, which is how the world should be viewed.
When entering into a new environment that is unlike your own you can experience culture shock.

This is a photo of a Tim Mcgraw concert I attended, and shows a large group of society enjoying country music.

Using our sociological imaginations, we can look at obesity and ask ourselves is it an individual problem or is it because fast food is so convenient and cheap?

Here is a picture of an everyday actor who has the practical knowledge to get through everyday life in our society.

My hometown, Reno, Nevada, is held together by organic solidarity.
Disenchantment is shown here with an ATM which eliminates face to face interaction with people. Machines like this are creating our society to become dehumanized.

The Feminist Theory looks at the inequalities with gender within our society. Here a girl is upset because this boy said he was a better driver than she is.

Capitalism is an economic system characterized by private ownership of goods such as companies like Coca-Cola.
This is a picture of a Jewish synagogue. Strong religions can create social cohesion through Mechanical solidarity.
