Lesson 12!!! (this one was harder)

Nice cars can evoke consumerism within individuals. Although your 2006 4Runner will get you to Point A from Point B the same as this Audi would, when you see other people driving in it it makes you want what you really don't need.

You can tell from my ITunes library that my taste in music tends to be country.
I believe having a big gate in front of your house in an average neighborhood is conspicuous consumption. No one else in this neighbor hood has a gate leading to their house, and it gives others the impression they are wealthy.
Stores are often popular due to the interaction approach. Friends and neighbors discuss low prices or good deals encouraging others to shop there.

Attending a concert with hundreds of other people creates collective effervescence. A stadium full of people there to see one of their favorite artists perform creates a certain kind of energy.

Lesson 11

This is a picture of my nuclear family. It consists of my mom, dad, and two biological brothers.

This is a picture with my extended family. This photo includes aunts, uncles, and cousins.
This photo shows physical domestic violence occurring within a family. However domestic violence is not limited to just physical abuse and includes verbal, and sexual abuse as well.
This photo is showing homogamy. The married couple are the same race, close in age, and have the same levels of education.
Remembering a family members birthday is an expressive task, which is usually more common for women to perform.

Lesson 10

In this picture two sexes are recognized, male and female.

This picture is to show a male breaking a gender role. One would not expect this gender to be buying a pink doll because it is not considered to be a normal trait for males.
This woman is demonstrating gender role socialization by cleaning dishes in the kitchen which is where women are expected to be.
These two males are showing their sexual orientation. They appear to be homosexual.

This young baby is taking place inn the social learning theory. By dressing her in pink and giving her a pink blanket she will learn that pink is a color meant for girls.

Lesson 9

This picture is to represent the invisible knapsack. Because he is a young, white male, his knapsack is extremely beneficial.

This U-Haul is representing population transfer, the forcible removing of a group. It symbolizes a group having to pack up all their things and haul them away to a new location.

This picture can depict racism and discrimination. because the Caucasian boy is refusing to stand next to the other two boys. He believes that he is superior to them.

Society makes us believe that the boy on the left is considered to be a different race than the one on the right based on his skin color.
Although it may look like a nerf war is occurring, this picture is supposed to represent a genocide, the killing off of a certain group. This group being exterminated here is adolescent white males.

lesson 8

This house on the top of the hill is owned by someone in the upper class. Although it is hard to see they have the nicest houes in our neighborhood, and probably have the most money than all the neighborhood. People in the upper-class contain most of the nations money.

This is a picture of my pantry, and it always looks like this. It is never not full. This is a certain cultural capital that I have become accustomed to throughout my life: always coming home to lots of food.

This is a picture of a remodeled kitchen in the home of someone who is in the upper-middle class. More specifically this is the kitchen of a doctor, who is in the 14% that make up the upper middle class.

This is a house to represent the middle class. It is an average house with older cars. The middle class makes up 30% of America's population.
This is a man working in Wal-Mart. He represents the lower class, and most likely has lower levels of education like a high school degree.

Lesson 7

Armed robbery is considered a violent crime. Violence is used in order for the criminal to get what he wants.

This graffiti is an example of property crime. Property crime is non violent, and occurs when someones property is altered or destroyed.

This is an example of deterrence on a mailbox in my neighborhood. It threatens punishment for tampering with mail in hopes that it will scare people into not committing a crime.
This is an example of physical stigma, and you can tell because he is in this wheelchair. With this type of stigma it would be difficult for passing to occur.
This is a correction facility near my hometown in Nevada. This picture represents incapacitation. Society is protected from criminals when they are imprisoned in facilities like the one above.

Lesson 6 (ten)

This is an example of a secondary group. They are all teammates that have the same goal to win.
This is an example of my primary group which includes my intermediate family. I respect them very much and they have helped shaped me into who I am today.
These two boys represent a dyad; a very unstable group.

Here a triad is represented. These group is more stable but less intimate than the dyad above is.
This picture represents social influence. One member of the group influenced another members attire resulting in members of the group dressing the same.
This is an example of my in-group. We all share common interests and enjoy doing things together. I identify with the people in this group.
This group can represent social cohesion. As an academic highly competitive team, we were loyal to each other, and spent numerous hours working with one another creating a strong group cohesion.
This is a picture of my friend on a bus with a bunch of strangers. Although they shared a location they do not know each other, therefore they are not a group but an aggregate.
These people are considered strangers. They are physically close, but the boy in the red shirt has no idea who the other kid is.
One may think my dad and I are in a group because we both wear glasses.  However, we are actually just a category.
